Suit care

Washing

If you get a little grime on your fursuit just wipe it off. There is no need to do a full wash when there’s only one little place that simply needs to be wiped off. To wash your fursuit head make up a mixture of cool water and a bleach-less laundry detergent. Use this mixture to clean off any stains or messy parts of the head while covering the eyes. The head can be set in the water and have the inside washed. Make sure to protect the eyes as they may run if they get wet.

Hand paws, arm sleeves, feet paws, and tails can be machine washed with cold water and bleach-less detergent.

For any parts that can’t be machine washed for any reason, partially fill a bath tub or container with water and some detergent. Most parts can be fully submerged, massage and scrub the part until you are satisfied. Wring out as much water as possible.

Bleach can be used in some instances on light fur but I wouldn't recommend it unless all else fails.

All parts should dry in a well-ventilated area, preferably hung up. (I personally recommend outside) The weight of water can cause seams to weaken and pop, after the suit is dry you should check it over for popped seams.

Repairs

Got a popped seam? Well here’s how you fix it with different parts. If you find a popped seam on your arm sleeves simply turn them inside out and stitch the seam back together with your stitch of choice. (I recommend a blanket stitch.) If you have a popped seam on the head, paws, feet, or tail, get as close to the edge as possible and perform a ladder stitch. This stitch is invisible and won't be seen. Other stitches can be used but are not invisible.

Are things coming off? Well here’s what you can do. Teeth that have fallen out can simply be hot glued back into place. If you have lost the tooth you can contact me with the other teeth height and width and I can make you another. If you would like to make another tooth instead, simply use some Sculpey baking clay to shape another and bake as the box instructs. If a claw falls out of your hand paw place the end of the claw back in the slit in the fingertip and attempt a ladder stitch. If this proves too difficult you can hot glue the claw back in. Same instructions for feet paw claws. If you lose a claw you can contact me with the claws height and width and I will make you a new one. To make a new claw cut out two claw shaped pieces out from your material and sew them together. You can stuff the claw if you want. Place the new claw in the slit in the hand or foot paw and sew or glue it in place.

Fur problems? Here’s the fix. Fur peeling. Carefully pull the fur away from the foam underneath and carefully dab hot glue onto the foam. Press the fur down until it dries.

Fur matted. Lay your matted part on a table or another flat place. Take a hair dryer or another heat emitting device and begin blowing it on the matted place. Now begin brushing the fur while you do this; the matts should start coming out. DO NOT put the hair dryer right in front of the fur! The heat softens the fur and makes it easier to brush out, but direct hot temperatures can cause permanent heat damage.

Eye issues? Here's some solutions. If you buckram has been pushed in ward you may be able to apply some glue to the space between the eye pieces and carefully put it back in place if this doesn't work you can also remove the rest of it and glue it to the back of the eye.

If the buckram has been punctured or otherwise damaged it will most likely need to be replaced, you can attempt to do this or you can contact me and I can.

If the eye itself has been damaged the head may need to be sent back depending on the damage. If a resin eye has been cracked, scratched, or otherwise damaged, if you cannot live with the issue the eye will most likely need to be replaced. I would recommend sending the head back for this repair but if you want to I can direct you to where I bought the eyes.
